THE PROVINCIAL GOVT. ROLLS OUT ITS ROAD CONSTRUCTION PROGRAMME

Local economic development in the districts of Idutywa and Willowvale are set to get a great shot in the arm as the Provincial government
begins with a R45 million road construction programme between the two small rural towns.

This Friday (28 July 2000) the Premier of the Province of the Eastern Cape, Rev Makhenkesi Stofile and MEC for Roads and Public Works
Pumullo Masualle will officiate at the sod turning ceremony organised to officially mark the reconstruction of the road which frequently
became impassable during and after heavy rains in the past. The ceremony will be held at Willowvale Town Hall from 10:00 am.Other
dignitaries expected at the ceremony include King Xolilizwe Sigcau and other local leadership.

The project constitutes part of the governments programme of rehabilitating and reconstructing the provincess road network and thereby
contributing to ensure the viability of the Wild Coast Spatial Development Initiative.Willowvale is a magisterial and administrative centre
of a large rural population which requires access to Idutywa and other centres. The work involves the complete reconstruction of the road to
a surfaced standard, construction of two bridges, cattle creeps, numerous storm water culverts, fencing, motor grid gates and bus stops
with shelters.>

The R45.4 million project will run over two financial years and for the current year R18.5 million is set aside for the project. In
accordance with the governments public works programme policy significant injection into the local economy will be registered with
numerous spin offs for the areas.

The government would appreciate you attendance and coverage of the ceremony, which we believe marks a critical phase in the governments
programme pronounced earlier this year by both the MECs for Finance and Roads and Public Works.
